MORE UNITS THAN SUBJECTS

I recently came across this after sending spy to one of the enemy castles. So the castle is fairly upgraded up to 202 points - there are around 500 subjects in the castle - very small quantity of resources and more than 3500 armoires hoursman, few hundred archers and few thousand of their attacking and detention units - and the player has only 9 castles in total - how can he have so many defending units in one castle when he couldn’t recruit them depending on how many resources and subjects he has. Thank you more experienced player for a reply and explanation - I would post a screenshot of what I described but am not sure how exactly.

I think this player had troops/units from others players. Sometimes when you attack, others can send their units to defend another castle and the units stay there as long as the player wants.
That's why he had more units than could recruit : )
