Castle/Fortress Population After Complete Upgrade

Once I get a castle/fortress up to its maximum point value, as in 289 and/or 290 for a castle, what is the remaining population count? I'm assuming that I get said castle/fortress up without recruiting a single soldier from the arsinel. (We all know that's not how it's done, but I figured that would give me the most accurate numbers to work with.) I'm trying to figure out what I have left to work with once a castle/fortress is maximized, so that I can decide on the troop numbers of each type that I'd like to recruit.

Also, in the Tasks and Rewards section, sometimes there are tasks which, upon completion, give you troops instead of resources or silver. (Picture a task such as, "Research armored horseman, be rewarded with 5 armored horsemen upon completion of the research." Are such troop rewards taken out of your total population, or does your total population count remain the same, and you receive these reward troops IN ADDITION to whatever you use your population to recruit?

As I said above, I'm looking at the remaining population AFTER I have maxed out a castle/fortress. (I know that you don't have to max these out, but that gives me the minimum that I have to work with.) I also know that, if I wanted them, I would need to consider hand carts and ox carts in my calculations. :-)

On a 289 keep, you have 4,066 units to build troops with.

Correct, "building administration" requires 934 Subjects. Leaving you with 4066 left to assign as troops and carts. All troops come out of this number regardless of where they come from, even as rewards. ;)

Theres a few templates for getting started, the most common are

600 spear
600 sword
600 archer
600 crossbow
400 lancer
400 armored
66 handcart


800 spear
400 sword
400 archer
800 crossbow
200 lancer
600 armored
66 handcart

400 spear
800 sword
800 archer
400 crossbow
600 lancer
200 armored
66 handcart

Just a starting point. Use whatever works for ya.

Unless you prefer ox carts, the only one I would stick with from above is the hc since you need 60 in order to exchange 9,999 RSS for silver

For fortress personally I build 12k DT usually 2k spear and 10200xbow then 4K lancers and roughly 12k archers this gives me a good balance of defence offence
